Tuesday Mornings

Today I finally got my act together and gathered my gardening equipment to venture out into the „jungle“ (which is what my yard resembles after its winter sleep).  But the sun was warming and the sky was a baby blue making the job at hand pleasurable.  Really, I do like to get my hands working the flower beds and I love seeing how the flowers are beginning to push through the dirt to poke their heads out.  In fact its kind of therapeutic.  Helping my plants grow, helps me grow too.  I concentrate on the work at hand and am able to let go of some thoughts that tend to bug me.  Although...I have to admit...about halfway through, when the mountains of dead leaves and twigs etc are heaped in piles all over the lawn, I tend to ask myself what possessed me to start this job.  But I know that if I just push forward and continue, that the rewards are great:  Pretty flowers!

An Apple a Day...

I am busy experimenting with this green smoothie stuff.  I ordered the book on green smoothies and the reading is fascinating.  I am hoping that it will help me get “healthy”!  I did find another link to the original website:  where it all began!  Click here to check it out!  The benefits are said to great.  hmmm  Today is day 2 of my smoothie journey.  I am still trying to get the perfect quick recipe.  Once I find it I will be sure to post it for everyone to use.

Friday's Buzz

On being a parent...
This past Christmas I read a book called „ Finding Noel“ by Richard Paul Evans.  Besides being a great book, there are a couple of passages that really stuck out.  One of those passages I would like to share today!

„...and one day I had this epiphany.  I realized that being a parent was like being the Wizard of Oz.
„What do you mean?“
„You know the part when Dorothy and her friends go to see the Wizard?  This big, ominous head talks to them and they’re all terrified.  Then her dog...Toto pulls back the curtain and there’s a little man behind it pulling levers and throwing switches. And he says ... ‚Ignore the man behind the curtain.’ I think that being a parent is like being the man behind the curtain.  We pretend that we know what we’re doing—that we’re omnipotent and all-knowing—when the truth is we’re just back behind the curtain throwing levers and switches, doing the best we can.““

This really hit home with me because that is exactly how I sometimes felt:  throwing levers and switches and just doing the best I could with the strength and knowledge I had at the time.  Then what happens when the kids grow up?  As stated in the passage:  „And then our kids find out that we’re not as great as they thought we were?“  „Exactly.“

I guess that is just part of parenting and growing wise.  (smile…)

Tuesday Mornings

The „joy“ of excercising
Okay, I am 55 years young and excercising it not exactly my most favorite thing to do.  In fact, getting myself the fitness center is sometimes easier said than done.  Yet, to be honest once I am there I’m glad I made the effort, because I feel Our bodies weren’t made to sit and sit and sit in front of computer or behind the wheel of a car all day.  Our bodies need movement.  Yeah, I know, you get plenty of movement running after kids all day or just taking care of everyday life.  But believe me, getting yourself to a gym for a workout, you may just discover some muscles you never knew existed! (Grin)

An Apple a Day......

Taking the time to take care of ME!
Harder said than done!  Know what I mean?  Here we are constantly taking care of everyone else, yet when it comes to us—what happens?  Right! Not much.  We are either too busy...too tired...or too something-or-other.  But when it comes right down to it:  „Me“ is important.  And it’s important that we pay more attention to the „ME“ inside.  Even little things like not standing at the sink doing dishes and simultaneously trying to „enjoy“ a cup of coffee.  I mean, get real!  Are we really THAT busy?  I think we need to sit down and let those 10 minutes of enjoyment wash over us. Those 10 minutes just might save my sanity.  And lets face, it a little more enjoyment in the day benefits not only myself but everyone around me too.  And that makes Life so much better!  Hey get out there and enjoy that well deserved break!  Have a great day!

Friday's Buzz

There’s a favorite quote of mine that goes like this:

„Shoot for the moon.  Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.“  Brian Littrell

It always reminds me that even when things aren't going the way I thought they would, I shouldn't give up because I just might bump into a star!  And that might not be so bad after all!  So many people give up, when if they would only continue their success would be inevitable.  This also has something to do with believing in yourself!  If YOU don't believe in yourself, why should anyone else?  Make sure you always remind yourself that you are better than think you are.  Successful people are just that:  people.  In other words, they are no different that you and I.  The only way they differ is in the way they think!  They think success!  they believe in themselves!  So remember this:  NEVER….Ever….sell yourself short!

Tuesday Morning's

I stumbled across this many years ago.  Unfortunately I don't know who wrote it to properly give credit.  Other than that, I thought it worth posting.  Enjoy!

"They were watching TV when she said, "I'm tired, and it's getting late. I think I'll go to bed."

She went to the kitchen to make sandwiches for the next day's lunches, rinsed out the supper dishes, took meat out of the freezer for dinner the following evening, checked the cereal box levels, filled the sugar container, put spoons and bowls on the table and filled the coffee pot for brewing the next morning.

She then put some wet clothes into the dryer, put a load of clothes into the wash, ironed a shirt and secured a loose button. She picked up the newspapers strewn on the floor, picked up the game pieces left on the table and put the telephone book back into the drawer. She watered the plants, emptied a wastebasket and hung up a towel to dry.

She emptied the kitchen bin, picked up the pile of discarded papers and junk mail and took it out to the trash bin.

She put the cordless phone back in its cradle, plumped up the sofa cushions, straightened a picture, wiped some dust from the coffee table and picked up some crumbs from the carpet under his chair.

She stopped by the kitchen and wrote out a shopping list for the next day, She signed a birthday card for a friend, addressed and stamped the envelope, then went round the house checking all the windows and doors.

He called out, "I thought you were going to bed."

"I'm on my way," she said and made her way upstairs.

She looked in on each of the rooms, hung up a shirt, threw some dirty socks in the hamper, and closed all the curtains.

In their bedroom, she set the alarm, laid out clothing for the next day, straightened up the shoe rack. She added three things to her list of things to do for tomorrow.

She then creamed her face, put on moisturizer, brushed and flossed her teeth and trimmed her nails.

About that time, he turned off the TV and announced to no one in particular "I'm going to bed,"

And he did."

An Apple a Day...

....keeps the Doctor away!  That’s what Mom always told me.  Well I’m no Doctor, but it’s a fact that apples are healthy.  I myself, sometimes (sometimes? who am I kidding?) find that I am pressed for time as to peeling, coring, and munching on the run.  Instead I have found a great way of getting that one-a-day-apple throwing in maybe a banana and other types of fruit in a fast, easy and delicious manner!  The answer?  Smoothies!  Yep, I just throw everything into my mixer...and a few seconds later...voila...a healthy great way to „drink“ your fruit.  I also found a website where you can find all sorts of recipes including healthy and green smoothies.  You might want to check it out by clicking here.

Thoughts on Happiness

Todd Burrier with thoughts on Happiness....

A funny thing happens when we get what we want....after
a while, it doesn't seem to be enough anymore.

You know what I mean? We really want something, and then we get it, and we are happy about it for a little bit…maybe a few days or so….and then POOF the happiness fades and we want more or we want something else entirely. The lesson here, is that happiness has nothing to do with things or accomplishments.
You get the gift you want for Christmas and your all happy about it Christmas day, and a few days later, you forget all about it!
I can’t take credit for this blog idea. I came home from the gym this morning and Melanie was watching a video of Joyce Meyer as part of her morning devotion time. I heard about 20 seconds of this as I was getting my breakfast and then I heard Joyce Meyer say “If you aren’t happy when you don’t get what you want, you’ll never be happy when you get what you want.”......
